- 40 people died following
horiffic accident along the
Nairobi-Naivasha highway
-The grisly road accident
occurred after a fuel tanker lost
control and burst into flames
- President Uhuru condoled
with the families which lost
loved ones and wished quick
recovery to the injured
Survivors and witnesses of the
Naivasha tragic accident that
killed 40 people have recounted
Agatha Waithera, who arrived
minutes after the accident
described the scene as similar to a horror movie.
"I watched as people burned to
death. Some tried to escape but
they were overwhelmed.
They
They
collapsed outside their car
before they were consumed by
the flames," she said.
"Locals here always assist
whenever there is an accident
but yesterday, people were
running away from victims
who were crying because of
pain. Some opened doors of
their vehicles only to fall and
die," said Kamau, a witness.
It was a scene straight from
hell, said James Kamau who
survived the horrific crash
"The scene was horrific. Bodies
were lying all over. I took more hours trying to locate my
brother who died next to his
vehicle while trying to flee,"
said Francis Njoroge.

"I have witnessed many road
accidents in the many years I
have lived here. However, this
particular one was the most
horrific. It has left us in great
shock. We witnessed motorists
cry for help and even died yet
we could do nothing to save
them. It is very sad," said
James Kariuki, a boda boda
operator.
"Soon after, the smell of
burning flesh and car tyres
started filtering into the air as
most of the people who had
been trapped in the cars
unsuccessfully fought to free
themselves. There was little I
could do. I remember how one
man who was burning tried to
run away from the wreck only
for him to collapse a few
metres from his car and died
trying to put out the fire," said
Wainaina, a trader in the
area.
The identification of bodies of the
victims of the accident has
kkicked off today at Chiromo
mortuary in Nairobi.
President Uhuru Kenyatta has
condoled with the families which
lost loved ones as investigations
into the accident continue.
