Saturday, December 10, 2016, will
go down in the books of Kenya's
history as one of the darkest days
after more than 40 people were
killed in a fire following a road
accident at Karai area along the
Nairobi-Naivasha highway.
Cars were burned to shells in the
Naivasha tragedy.
The accident happened after acanter carrying highly
inflammable substances hit a road
bump, lost control and rammed
into a number of vehicles coming
from the opposite side of the
traffic.
Over 10 vehicles caught fire and
most occupants could not escape
in what looked like a horror film.
Many families are yet to come toterms to the unfortunate incident
that killed their loved ones.

On Sunday, December 11, a cargo
train ferrying diesel to Nairobi
derailed in Kibwezi town and
residents who are yet to learn
from the happenings associated
with petrol and other inflammable
substances rushed to the scene to
scoop the free petrol.

containers ready to scoop the
diesel.

It took the efforts of the area
police to ward off the 'hungry'
residents and cordon the area to
avert any danger.
This is not the first time residents
have rushed to get free petrol
after tanker accidents.
In 2009, more than 100 people
were burned to death in the
Sachangwan tragedy after they
went to scoop petrol from a
tanker that had crashed.

The petrol exploded and what
followed became a national
tragedy as families struggled to
come to terms to the unfortunate
incident.
